Susan Mitchell is a Florida State Licensed Acupuncture Physician and Nationally Board Certified Diplomate of the NCCAOM, a member of the FSOMA, and is certified in NSEV Healing.
The foundation of Susan’s career began over thirty years ago when she began her work as a Nursing Assistant. This early experience as a healthcare provider shaped her future as she assisted in Progressive Coronary Care, ICU, and Cardiac Telemetry. A few years later, she received her EMT license and began her pre-requisites for Nursing.
During this time, Susan discovered the extraordinary benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This exposure to Acupuncture and Herbology on a personal level led her to change her focus from Western to Eastern Medicine.
Susan graduated from The Acupuncture and Herbology programs at the Community School of Traditional Chinese Healthcare in 1994. She has continued to study NSEV Healing on an ongoing basis. This system successfully treats a variety of disorders associated with emotional and psycho-spiritual imbalance. She has also transferred this knowledge into Acupressure treatments with essential oils.
In the past, Susan has worked closely on Oriental Facial Rejuvenation Protocols with the Microcurrent Research Company. She incorporates scalp and facial Acupuncture, micro-current treatments, and facial Tuina into her treatment protocols. Susan has lectured with East-West Seminars on this subject throughout the United States. She currently teaches Facial Rejuvenation to her fellow Acupuncturists and Students, both privately and at lectures and demonstrations.
Susan also has a passion for cooking. She is a vegetarian, and grows her own herbs and sprouts, right in her kitchen. She has presently been teaching Five Element Vegetarian Cooking Classes, and thoroughly enjoys sharing her knowledge and cooking skills.
Susan currently maintains her private practice at CAMP 4 Health in Wilton Manors (Fort Lauderdale), Florida.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient practice that is a proven safe and effective method of healthcare. By activating the body's own natural healing abilities, Acupuncture can both preserve and restore wellness, as it simultaneously addresses both a condition and its root cause.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) recognize Acupuncture for over 40 common disorders, including stress, depression, headaches, fatigue, back pain, sciatica, sinus problems, digestive disorders, arthritis, fibromyalgia, insomnia, and menstrual and fertility issues. It's no wonder that this incredible treatment from the East has thrived for centuries and now, has found its way to the West.
Massage
Massage Therapy is a great way to maintain good health, or improve poor health. It increases circulation, reduces stress, improves mobility and flexibility, and decreases pain and discomfort. Other benefits of Massage include relaxation, anxiety reduction, improved condition of the skin and tissues, and an engendered feeling of well-being. All organic oils may be used on request.

Unlike typical prescription drugs, each formula is custom tailored to the specific needs of each individual patient by a trained Herbalist. This provides a safe and natural method to improve and maintain overall health, longevity and balance.

All of our herbs are of the highest quality available, acquired from our most reliable and trusted vendors, which inspect and provide reports with extremely high standards. Reiki
Reiki is an effective and non-invasive technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It opens the pathways of the body and promotes the natural healing process. When Reiki is administered, the Chi, or life force energy, is transmitted through the Reiki practitioner to another's body or energy field. This life force energy flows through all of us, and when it is balanced and positive we have optimal health. When it is low and out of balance we become ill, and are affected negatively by stress.
Chi nourishes all of the organs, tissues, and cells of our body, supporting them in their vital life functions. When the energy flow moves through and around us, uninhibited, we feel relaxed and comfortable, in a state of "ease". When the energy flow is disrupted by illness or stress, it causes diminished functioning of the organs and tissues of the physical body, and we find ourselves in a state of stress, or "dis-ease". This is the origin of disease.
People who have experienced Reiki treatments describe a feeling of peace, security and well being. Reiki treats the whole person, which includes the mind, body, emotions and spirit. This, of course creates a multitude of beneficial effects, and it is always helpful and positive.
Reiki is a time-tested, simple, natural and safe method of healing. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to promote good health and the reduction of negative stress effects.
Facial Rejuvenation
Facial Rejuvenation is currently one of the most sought-after treatments we offer. It is a safe and effective alternative to plastic surgery, laser treatment, dermabrasion, chemical peels, collagen, and Botox™. While it does not produce the dramatic results of some of these more invasive treatments, it does help the face to look younger, healthier, and more radiant without dangerous side effects.
Facial Rejuvenation was first recorded thousands of years ago, when the Chinese emperors went searching for wives and mistresses. Both the common woman and the other classes up through royalty utilized facial rejuvenation protocols to look their best, because an influential leade might choose her at any time.In ancient Chinese folklore, some of these beauties were bold and courageous, and saved their countries from war and detriment because of their seductive influence over their men of power.
Facial Rejuvenation with gentle micro-current evolved through time for patients with pronounced sagging facial muscles from Bell's Palsy or post-stroke. The result of treatment was so cosmetically effective that it transformed into an acclaimed program for anti-aging and beauty. The benefits include improved muscle tone, facial contouring, circulation, cellular metabolism, and increased collagen and elastin production.Skin becomes radiant and relaxed with a healthy glow. Fine lines, wrinkles, and tension are reduced and sagging muscles gently tighten, while the tight muscles relax and receive additional blood flow.
The number of treatments depends upon the patient's age, sun exposure, skin condition, heredity, and other factors. Once the optimum level of improvement is achieved, an occasional maintenance treatment keeps the face looking its best.

Nutrition
For centuries in the Orient, nutrition has been considered an integral part of health and wellness. Dietary protocols were given to patients for the preservation of health as well as for curative benefits. Foods were prescribed for many types of disease with positive results, and nutrition continues to maintain an important role in modern Oriental Medicine.
The basic underlying principles of Oriental Nutrition include a balance of cooked and raw foods, hot and cold thermodynamics, eating according to the season, and a harmonization of flavors. A diet of easily digestible foods along with the avoidance of overeating creates a healthy digestive system. Eating late at night is not advised because sleep is a time of regeneration, and the digestive process of a full stomach should not cause interruption. Eating should take place during relaxation, in the sitting position, and food should be chewed thoroughly.
Both cooked and raw foods should be included in the diet. Too many raw foods may cause damage to the spleen and stomach, therefore impairing digestion. Too many cooked foods, especially if overcooked, may be devoid of essential nutrients. A healthful diet is comprised of as many fresh and organic items as possible, with a balance of cooked and raw preparations. An adjustment may be made in either direction while on a Nutritional Therapy Diet in order to correct health problems.
Each food possesses either a hot, cold, or balanced nature. This does not refer solely to the temperature, such as hot soup or a cold drink. This nature refers to the overall thermodynamic effect on the body after it's been eaten. Consistent with the other facets of Oriental Medicine, the law of opposites applies to nutrition. A cold person should eat more warming foods, and a hot person should eat more cooling foods to correct imbalance. Modifications must be made in order to adapt to the changes taking place throughout the healing process. It is also appropriate to eat according to the season, which has been a standard practice for many centuries.
The five flavors - Sour, Bitter, Sweet, Spicy, and Salty - should be balanced throughout the year, regardless of season. A typical diet should contain all five of these flavors in order to create harmony. In certain cases of imbalance however, one or more of these flavors may need to be increased, eaten in moderation, or completely avoided. Dietary excesses such as saturated fat, processed foods, artificial ingredients, heavy intake of red meats, alcohol, sugar, white flour products, and in some cases even dairy should be removed from the diet in order to heal or maintain good health.
Each flavor also affects the organs of the body, and the emotions. Sour foods have been known to affect the Liver and emotion of Anger, Bitter foods affect the Heart and Joy, Sweet foods affect the Spleen and Rumination or Worry, Spicy foods affect the Lungs and Grief, and Salty foods affect the Kidneys and Fear. Each flavor has a wide range of other indications, which may be used effectively in healing many disorders. This is why nutrition may be applied as medicine.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is an art of healing which uses different aromatic essential oils from highly concentrated extracts of herbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, seeds, roots, bark, berries, and other plant parts. Essential Oils contain substances that have been found to be therapeutic when inhaled or applied to the skin. They are not greasy, and are extremely healing and medicinal. There are no synthetic fragrances added to Essential Oils, only the pure essence of the plant itself.
The quality of the Essential Oil is what makes the difference between it being healing and therapeutic, or just a fragrance. There are over 150 different Essential Oils, and each has a unique chemical composition. They contain the essential components that keep the plant alive and thriving. The medicinal effect of each Essential Oil depends on the species of plant, where it is grown, and the type of processing. Different varieties of the same oil can vary in quality, and be used in different ways.
Essential Oils can be costly. This is because of their concentration and the amount of the plant required to produce the oil. For instance, it takes about 30 petals of a rose to make a single drop of rose oil. Lower quality fragrance oils are usually synthetic, and therefore they cost much less. Some fragrance oils can cause adverse affects such as headaches and dizziness because of their impurity. It is important to know the source and quality of Essential Oils for proper usage and application.
Essential Oils have been used for healing and rituals for many centuries. Homer wrote about oils used for massage as early as 1000 BC, and Plato and Socrates wrote of anointing with oil and rubbing to ease pain. Throughout history, many oils have been used for massage because they facilitate gliding over the skin. Basic massage oils contain ingredients that nourish the skin and promote health. Essential Oils may be added to certain massage oils for additional therapeutic benefits.
When Essential Oils are inhaled, they reach a part of the brain called the limbic system, which controls the emotions, influences the nervous system, and regulates the hormones. This affects the heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, respiration, memory, digestion, and the immune system. It is also believed that Essential oils are absorbed through the skin. Aromatherapy Massage works particularly well for stress and emotional issues, and the pleasant aroma of the Essential Oils is quite enjoyable. We recommend an Aromatherapy Massage either at the end of the day, or on your day off, to optimize your relaxation.

NSEV Healing
NSEV (Non-somatic Extraordinary Vessel) Acupuncture treatments are used to treat and prevent disease in a way that integrates the mind, body, emotions, and spirit. Based on ancient Chinese medical concepts, NSEV is more of a modern adaptation of traditional Acupuncture, Herbs, and topical applications. It utilizes the traditional methods of Acupuncture, Cupping and Moxibustion, gold and silver needles, and also Ion Pumping cords attached to the needles in many cases. It addresses core patterns of function, as well as symptoms such as physical pain and emotional imbalance. This in turn facilitates health and well being, as well as harmony in the way a person interacts with the world.
The Non-somatic Extraordinary Vessels are also treated on a more subtle level, through other adjunct treatments such as massage, topical herbs, rolling, magnets, music, and aromatherapy with essential oils.
NSEV treatments are also offered as shared group Acupuncture sessions, where groups of people (small or large) receive treatment simultaneously. Some groups actually receive the exact same treatment, depending on the time of year, or desired goal of treatment of that particular session. We will be offering these treatments on a regular basis.
Specific herbal formulations have also been developed to address and harmonize each of the eight Extraordinary Vessels, and these herbs are available at our pharmacy. These formulas are excellent at treating disorders of the "shen" or spirit, depression, and insomnia.
NSEV healing was researched and developed by Daniel Nevel, AP in Miami Beach. Susan is certified in this practice, and Dan's office refers patients to her on a regular basis.
